Poor Vanuatu! Poor people! What astrological warnings might we have found of this meteorological horror that in March 2015 has stripped the archipelago of the past two centuries and made thousands and thousands homeless?
Data came from Nick Campion’s invaluable World Astrology, chart 383; and I could see no major transit hitting the Tropical chart of Vanuatu’s independence where it hurt. But experience has shown time after time that in the nativities of public figures and historic events the Sidereal holds the key - being the greater cosmic stage upon which we play out our dramas. Accordingly the Sidereal was set up, and there indeed were the islands’ 0h00 Sun and meridian right in the way of transiting Tropical Pluto, with the Aries Ascendant directly in Uranus’ current firing line. This is how it works. Astrology is inter-dimensional. Add the indispensable Dwad to this Sidereal radix chart, and the islands’ vulnerability becomes clear - Dwad Chiron meets the radix MC and the Dwad Asc/Desc picks up both levels of Mars. Vanuatu’s Tropical Solar Return for July 30th 2014 admittedly has Venus rising and a Sun-Jupiter conjunction in the 1st; but Pluto sets square elevated Uranus, and the Dragon’s Tail is close to the MC with the Head at the IC near Ceres - there will be bereavement in this climatic disaster, and progress will halt. It’s Back To Square One. Now, if we switch this un-precessed Return straight into the Sidereal again and add its Dwad, the pain and chaos intensifies with Dwad Pluto conjunct Saturn and Neptune on the radix Ascendant opposite Dwad Mars and Moon. Also in the Dwad the IC joins radix Mars, the Asc/Desc lines up with the fateful Nodes, the Sun conjoins Uranus, and Mercury closes on the radix Jupiter. This was a monster wind. Uranus collected the Total Lunar Eclipse of October 8th 2014 and will repeat the exercise on April 4th - Easter Saturday - this year. Both fall across Vanuatu’s Sidereal Asc/Desc, squaring the Sidereal Sun/MC and the transit of Pluto. The most recent lunation, the Full Moon of March 6th, put Saturn ominously on the Midheaven at the longitude of Port Vila, the islands’ capital. On the day category 5 Cyclone Pam hit the islands - Friday 13th March 2015 - a geodetic map shows the Chiron line passing right through the New Hebrides just east of Port Vila. There, at the start of that dreadful day, the Tropical and Sidereal were interacting again; the Tropical Sun/IC at 21/22 Pisces was conjoined by Sidereal Uranus and Mars; the Sidereal Ascendant fell on Tropical Moon/Saturn, Sidereal Ceres (environmental issues, and bereavement) threatened the Tropical Ascendant, and the Sidereal Sun/IC was close to Tropical Mercury. The impact on Vanuatu - its chart and its islands - was cataclysmic. A South Pacific paradise is in ruins. This is an exercise in astrological understanding: but of course also an account of an immediate and desperate human emergency. Please if you can, donate to the relief effort which will be needed for many months to come, in whatever way is locally open to you. |
